about

A demo of our single from our EP, It Always Comes Back To You

lyrics

A year is not long enough for the body to forget muscle memory.
Every skin cell still holds memory of every Sunday we spent
lying in a king size bed, far too big for our apartment,
clinging so tightly, we were convinced we could coalesce
if we could only manage to stay that way long enough.

A year is not long enough for the body to forget muscle memory.
I still catch myself turning to my right, expecting you to be beside me,
so we can speak in a tongue that is all our own,
but the truth is, you are not there, and I have lost control of the language.

A year is not long enough for the body to forget muscle memory.
My small hands can still perfectly recall how wonderful it was
to wrap around palms that were exactly the same size.
I worry they will never accept that they must stretch to fit another,
and would rather I just sever them at the carpals and leave them at your door.

A year is not long enough for the body to forget muscle memory.
My cerebral cortex has been imprinted with memoirs and images
of the three years it spent convinced that some things can last forever.
I almost pray for neuron death, just so I can feel what it is like to forget.
But I know I am not strong enough.

A year is not long enough for the body to forget muscle memory.
My heart strings are still coiled around a name that would bring me pain to speak.
May 5th is carved into my atria, like a cursed message on a tree trunk.
My heartbeat begins tripping over itself every time
I try and face a future where that name and date must mean nothing.

It has been a year, and my body still remembers what it was like to love you
as if the last time it had the chance was this afternoon.
A year is not long enough for the body to forget muscle memory,
so I decided to look up just how long such recollection can last.
The answer made me fall to my knees and beg for atrophy.
Turns out, a lifetime is not long enough for the body to forget muscle memory.
